This event was conceived by Cathy Savage, CACDA board member and former resident of Sonoma County California, where she first encountered art trails and enjoyed participating in them with her husband, Glenn. Savage said, “We made so many connections with cool artists and people during the art trails, and wanted to experience this in Cazenovia.”
Participating artists include Gene Doering, Jude Ferencz, Gene Gissin, Jane Carroll, Mary Padgett, Dave Harper, Naomi DeMuth, Dwight Williams and the artists of Cazenovia Artisans, among others. The Cazenovia Public Library will be open throughout the event and will serve as an “art hub” where other local artists who aren’t able to open their home studios can set up their work and materials and be available to meet with visitors. Additionally, Pompey Historical Society and the Cazenovia Public Library will be showing the works of John Calvin Perry and Dwight Williams as a link to art history in our community.
Because the artists have a broad range of mediums and techniques, including metal and wood sculpture, pottery, photography, and painting, the event will offer something for everyone. Those with technical interests can learn about equipment and tools. Those who are curious about the inspiration for a style of art or a specific piece can chat with the artist to learn the story behind the artwork.
Though not directly involving artists, the New Woodstock Public Library and the Pompey Historical Society will be open and marked as designated stops during the Art Trail. The New Woodstock Library will be displaying an exhibit on Past Technology, and the Pompey Historical Society will be open to display the Perry Art Collection.
On the days of the Art Trail, all artists’ locations will be marked with a sign along the road. Maps of the trail will available at Cazenovia Artisans in the Village of Cazenovia and online at www.art-trail.org.
Those who would like to visit all the artists may pick up a card at any stop on the trail. Once all the stops have been stamped, the cards will be entered into drawing for a $50.00 gift card. The cards will also be good for a free pass to Critz Farms Fall Harvest Celebration on the same dates as the Art Trail. Come on out and enjoy the unique beauty of Central New York in fall while also getting to know art in our community.
