NYC based powerhouse Gent Treadly returns to The Palace Theater with special guest Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Legend of The Band, Garth Hudson at The Palace Theater Friday, September 14 at 8pm.

Gent Treadly, led by Greg Koerner, has performed at The Palace previously with Vince Welnick of Grateful Dead and The Tubes, as well as New Orleans musical royalty Henry Butler last year.  Gent Treadly offers a precocious mix of original music and a diverse selection of classic songs created by their special guests.  This will be Mr. Hudson's first visit to The Palace - his virtuoso and musical genius will intoxicate your senses with his gorgeous piano playing and magic fingers on an electric keyboard.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be playing with Garth Hudson. The music he created as a member of The Band is iconic in the truest sense of the word – those songs are timeless and in many ways Garth was the architect of that sound. His playing is immediately recognizable and listening to his playing over our music is a true delight and consistently reminds how lucky we are to be sharing the stage with him!” says Greg Koerner of Gent Treadly. "We also thank Dave Hale, Murray Decock, and Paul Schupf for their energy and support in making this concert happen."

Tickets are $10 at the door. It’s free for Colgate students with Colgate ID and for youth 17 and under.  Doors open at 7:30pm and general seating is limited to first come-first served. This concert is sponsored by Colgate University and Colgate Alumnus Paul J. Schupf.

Garth Hudson was born in Canada and after performing with local dance bands joined a rock and roll group, The Capers, from 1958 through 1961. Then he hooked up with Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks, the rhythm and blues band, from 1961to 1963. Garth left Hawkins, to tour with the new band, Levon and the Hawks. Along came Bob Dylan, who recruited Levon and the Hawks to accompany him in his 1966 folk-rock tour. In 1968, the Hawks became known as The Band and recorded their seminal debut album, Music From Big Pink. Over the next eight years, The Band continued recording and touring, releasing eight albums and performing to sold out houses around the world. Among the highlights of these shows were Garth’s improvised introductions to “Chest Fever.” The Band called an end to touring with a lavish concert in 1976 as documented in Martin Scorsese’s film, “The Last Waltz.” Garth performed with The Band frequently through the ‘80s and ‘90s, but his long-awaited first solo CD, The Sea To The North, was released in 2001.

The list of great musicians Garth has recorded and performed with is incredible and endless, including: Norah Jones,  Los Lobos, The Gipsy Kings, Leonard Cohen, Thumbs Carllile, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Marianne  Faithfull, Roger Waters, Jennifer Warnes, Cyndi Lauper, Tango Man, Barenaked Ladies, John Sebastian, Tom Rush, Livingston Taylor, Emmylou Harris, the Indigo Girls, Don McLean, Keith Richards, and Levon Helm and the Barn Burners.

Garth lived in California and its burgeoning music scene, contributing to several movie soundtracks, such as “The Right Stuff” and Martin Scorsese’s films “Raging Bull” and “The King of Comedy.” He composed Music For Our Lady Queen Of The Angels, a multimedia celebration created in 1980 for the 200th anniversary of the City of Los Angeles by Hollywood costume and set designer Tony Duquette, including a saeta written by Ray Bradbury and narrated by Charleton Heston. He has appeared on TV shows: Ed Sullivan, Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary, Woodstock ‘94, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, and Saturday Night Live. Garth was inducted into the JUNO Hall of Fame (The Band), 1989; The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (The Band), 1994; Canada South Blues Society, Lifetime Achievement Award, 2002; Hamilton Music Scene Award, Instrumentalist of the Year, 2005; Hamilton Dofasco Lifetime of Achievement Award (The Band), 2007; Grammy Lifetime of Achievement Award (The Band), 2008.
