Back by popular demand! Slater Brothers Entertainment’s Hamilton International Film Festival, founded by brothers Wade, Grant and Todd Slater, whose father, Terry Slater, was the head hockey coach at Colgate University for 15 years, is returning with an impressive all star line up of films, music, charity themed events and parties set to take place August 5 – 8, 2010.
Through the Film Festival, the Slater brothers aim to bring a piece of Hollywood back to the area they proudly grew up in and provide a platform to recognize local area talent and advance the careers of aspiring filmmakers. Supported by the town of Hamilton, NY and Colgate University, this year’s festival will have some of the biggest filmmakers and entertainment companies in attendance. The first film will be screened at 7pm on Thursday night at the Hamilton theater and events will continue throughout the weekend capped off with a film makers festival closing night party and live performance that includes the Mark McKay Band happening at The Palace Theater in downtown Hamilton.
Todd Slater’s announcement of the line up and scheduled filmmakers set to appear came with great excitement, “My brothers and I started this festival and awareness weekend to give back to the area we grew up in. We couldn’t think of a better way to promote the festival and the arts of Central and Up State New York than by hosting this annual event. This year we have been able to secure not only great films and film makers who will all be in attendance and accessible to the people who attend the weekend events, but we are also lucky enough to have great sponsors who have made bringing in musical acts like the Mark McKay Band and others possible. Our company is aimed at putting on special events with a charitable focus. We thought, why not include music and a great closing night party along with a line up of great films to make for a fun weekend for everyone. “

Some of the confirmed names and faces that are set to appear include Harold Ramis of Ghost Busters, Groundhog Day and Caddyshack fame. A special “classic” Ramis film will be shown during the weekend. Other names include director Joe Berlinger who is set to show his award winning film Crude, director Vicki Abeles who was just profiled on Oprah for her award winning documentary Race To Nowhere, ESPN Films and producer and film executive Mark Durand will be presenting one of their new films, director Josh Easdon and his award winning  film Keep Eye On Ball: The Hashim Khan Story, director Rob Sorrenti and his award winning film Wednesday, director Alec Asten and his award winning film The Curse of Micah Rood, director and actress Renee O’Connor and her film Word Unspoken, director Jeffrey Bliss and his film Telefone, foreign film maker Yang Yi and her award winning film Into The Women’s Kingdom, and Central NY film maker Kenny Mac Bain and his short film The Crown, to name a few.  Vicki Abeles will be on hand for the public to meet at the Colgate Bookstore at 7pm Friday night, August 6th discussing her award-winning documentary Race to Nowhere. In regards to Abeles film, Slater commented “this is one powerful film that every parent, coach, teacher and high school administrator should see.”

The weekend events also include a charity hunger awareness walk to benefit the Food Cupboard happening Saturday August 7th starting at 8am. Registration will take place at the Hamilton Village Green next to the Colgate Inn in downtown Hamilton starting at 7:30am that morning.

The weekend will be capped off with a major sponsored filmmakers party happening Saturday night at the Palace Theater immediately following the film screenings. The schedule for Saturday August 7th includes director and celebrity red carpet arrivals starting at 6:30pm at the Palace theater, a pre film sponsored cocktail hour, two award winning film screenings including the film Crude presented by it’s director Joe Berlinger starting at 7:30, and the closing night party happening immediately after. The Mark McKay band is scheduled to perform live at the party and will be on hand for autographs after.

Grant Slater continued with his brother’s sentiments in saying “We wanted to bring a fun event back to the area we grew-up in. Hamilton and Central New York is a special place. Hopefully we can bring some famous faces and some talented filmmakers back to Central New York for years to come. The addition of some major sponsors and live music this year has let us bring the festival weekend to another level. Anyone interested in entertainment and filmmaking should enjoy this weekend. The directors, celebrities and producers will all be directly accessible to the audience. It’s not an every day type event when you can speak directly to executives and producers from ESPN or a Hollywood director like Harold Ramis. For the movie going public and anyone looking to help give back to the charities Slater Brothers have hand chosen to help out, the weekend should make for an incredible time.”
