There are many events planned throughout Madison County to celebrate Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer. Here is a list of events that we know of that are perfect for the family. Don't forget to have a safe and happy Memorial Day and please take a few moments to think about those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy living in the world's greatest nation. Parades: Canastota Monday May 31 10am with a ceremony to follow in Clark Park Cazenovia Monday May 31 10:30-11:30 Munnsville: Sunday May 30th, 1pm Oneida: Friday, May 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Triangle Park. The Madison County War Veterans (WAVEM) will hold its 20th Anniversary Memorial Service on Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at memorial at the court house. The invocation will be given by Madison County American Legion chaplain, Joseph Barilla. There will be remarks by various Legion and VFW commanders, the Madison County Veterans Service director, Donald Smith, supervisors and Doug Ginney, WAVEM president and master of ceremonies. The guest speakers will be Nancy Larraine Hoffmann and Assemblyman William Magee, D-111. The WAVEM directors will place the wreaths. Hamilton and Canastota American Legions will provide the firing squads. Peter Finocchiaro will play taps and the WAVEM chaplain Larry Dixon will give the benediction.
