An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition runs June 25, 26, 27, and July 2, and 3 (gallery is closed on July 4, Independence Day). Summer gallery hours are Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Chowdhury is an artist working in photography and digital media. His work explores the relationships between individuals, their societies, and environments in different cultures. Before coming to Cazenovia College, Chowdhury taught at Zayed University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan; and the University of Washington, Seattle. He received his master of fine arts degree in photography at the University of Washington. His photography and digital video works have been exhibited widely in the United States and abroad. The exhibition includes photographs taken in Dubai, The United Arab Emirates from 2003 to 2006, Chowdhury says, “during a boom era that seemed to many there as if it would never end… in a burst of economic activity that in a few years had turned a once sleepy Arabian gulf port into an amazingly cosmopolitan city, where conspicuous consumption shone like a beacon of temptation for the more battened down desert neighborhoods of the rest of the Persian Gulf. The work in this exhibition looks back on Dubai during those heady years before the crash, when anything seemed possible.” More of Chowdhury’s work may be seen at www.neilchowdhury.com.
