Franklin Trek Returns to Madison County 07/30/2009
The 55th annual Franklin Auto Trek returns to Madison County this weekend and you can see the antique cars in all their glory in and around Cazenovia for the next week. On Sunday, there will be a Parade of Cars down Albany Street beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a chicken BBQ hosted by the boy scouts at Lakeland Park where the cars will be on display. The public is welcome. Contact the chamber for information on the entire week's schedule. The Franklin Trek is not the only fun event in town this weekend. Here are some ideas for your first weekend of August: 1. Farmer's markets are in full bloom with tons of local produce now available, you will have no reason to go to Wegman's this weekend. Stop by any of the farmers markets in Cazenovia, Canastota or Hamilton Saturday morning and stock up on everything you need for the week ahead. 2. Kids can uncover the secret lives of aquatic invertebrates at Chittenango Falls State Park on Saturday with the program Meet at Megaloptera. The program begins at 2pm. On Sunday kids can get wild with art at the park. Children ages 7-12 will get up close and personal with the park’s natural environment through the outdoor art-based activities of nature journaling. Children will be encouraged to explore the outdoors using all their senses while recording their findings artistically and scientifically in personal nature journals. 2:00PM. Art supplies will be provided. Free with general admission to park. 3. Lorenzo State Historic Site hosts a vintage hats and bonnets program from 1:30-3:30 will include a tour of hat displays Ms. Langley has staged in various period rooms at Lorenzo and the afternoon’s activities will culminate in a book signing and a “Full” English tea reception in the formal garden. Copies of Vintage Hats & Bonnets, retail value $29.95, will be available for program attendees at a “one-time” price of $25.00, tax included. Seating will be limited and advance registration is required. Tickets are $15 per person. Please contact Diane Voss at (315) 655-3200 for space availability and payment information. This program and display has been made possible, in part, with support from The Friends of Lorenzo. 4. Get out of the house. Saturday is supposed to be a gem weather wise and it is the perfect opportunity to explore one of our great parks or some of our outstanding hiking trails. Enjoy the weekend.
