Best Bets for July 4th Weekend 07/02/2008

We've approached that time of year when everyone gets a chance to celebrate the great country that we live in. On this Independence Day weekend, bring the family out to learn the importance of this special day and have some fun in the process. Many towns in our county hold July 4th celebrations, but two villages in particular really go all out on this holiday: Cazenovia and Hamilton.

As on every Saturday during the summer, both villages will host their always popular farmers markets. Below you will find the specific weekend events for each town:

Cazenovia - Summer is here! What a perfect time for you to update your closet and I have just the place for you to do it. The Summer Sidewalk Festival in Caz will be held from Wednesday to Saturday. Come out to see what the shops of the Historic Cazenovia Business District have to offer. It truely is a unique shopping experience. Hours: July 2nd: 10am-6:30pm, July 3rd: 10am-5pm, July 5th: 10am-6:30pm. Most shops will close for the 4th of July.

This weekend also brings the always anticipated 33rd Annual CAVAC Arts and Craft Show at Lorenzo. There will be over 130 crafters and artisans from all over the Northeast displaying they goods for sale. This show really is one of the premier arts and crafts events in the area. It will be held on the lawn of Lozenzo State Historical Site on Saturday from 10am-5pm and on Sunday from 10am-4pm.

Now to the July 4th celebration in Cazenovia... Friday the parade will begin at 4pm and travel down Albany Street. Be sure to get there a little early to get a good spot. Following the parade there will be a Concert in the Park which will feature two bands, Fab Cats and One Shot Willie. The concert will begin at 6pm at Lakeland Park, bring a chair or a blanket and come enjoy this family friendly entertainment. Then...last but certainly not least....drum roll please...FIREWORKS!!! Fireworks will begin at dusk following the concert. For more information on any Cazenovia Village events please call 315-655-9243 or visit the Cazenovia Chamber of Commerce.

Hamilton - They don't call Hamilton the hip zip for nothing...this town really knows how to celebrate holidays and create lasting memories for you and your family. The village of Hamilton makes 4th of July Weekend a top priority of the year. On Thursday, the annual Colgate Inn Block Party will kick off at 6pm. This event is a great way to catch up with old friends that you maybe haven't seen in a while...it seems as though everybody remembers to come back to the area for this once a year event.

Friday is packed with events for the whole family. From 7am-3pm there will be vendors, crafters and entertainment on the village green. Entertainment will include, Rags to Riches and Bennie Clark & the Rhythm Sharks. Food will be available and there will be a chicken bbq at the Park Methodist Church at 10am. At 11am, the parade will begin through the village. You can certainly make a whole day out of this with all of the family friendly activities taking place (too many to list on here). Then to conclude the evening....duh duh duh....FIREWORKS!!! Nightfall Fireworks sponsored by Colgate University to be held at Taylor Lake at Dusk. Make sure to get there early to get a good spot and bring some chairs or a blanket for the whole family. For more information on Hamilton's July 4th weekend celebration, visit Hamilton, NY.

So there you have it, two villages, two great July 4th weekend celebrations. Confused about which one to attend? How about both? They are only a short distance apart from each other. Each village has its own charm to offer. For the fireworks...well that decision you will have to figure out as both towns display pretty impressive shows.
