170th Madison County Fair Shaping Up 02/27/2009
It is one of the oldest fairs in America still running. The 170th edition of the Madison County Fair will really kick things up a notch with new exhibits, new entertainment and a treasure hunt for all to participate in. “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude,…shall exist within the United States”declared the U.S. Congress on January 31, 1865, as it passed the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. On January 31, 2009, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum (NAHOF) announced the induction of two abolitionists who dedicated their lives to the abolition of slavery. The 2009 abolition inductees to the Hall of Fame are Lewis Tappan and Theodore Dwight Weld.
